And then, in BL2, I can't tell you a single thing about the antagonist from Torgue's DLC, other than he had a gigantic truck. The other DLCs were a killing arena (Underdome), a zombie DLC that just used Zed but with a mustache, and a bunch of Claptraps. Borderlands only had one really good villain in the whole game in Knoxxx, and that's mostly because we all identified with his "Done with everything" attitude. is.īut, to be honest, I feel like that's how most of the DLC villains are in the series. She doesn't die, doesn't do anything big, really. On the flipside, we just came off the heels of facing Handsome Jack for an entire game who had a lot more depth, and so she, as a villain/antagonist, doesn't really feel like anything special. She's fairly forgettable in and of herself, but then she was in DLC 1, which means she was the first villain after we faced Jack, and her whole schtick was "I'm gonna betray you sooner or later" to the point where it was running a joke into the ground IMO. I think it comes down to a lot of timing too. Then following DLC learned from this and improved the writing which would have retrospectively killed interest as well. Anything would have struggled to stand up against the main story and 'a pirate' was just too generic. Nothing that happens is a shock or twist or anything that'll make the character stick in a player's mind.Īnd all of this is following on immediately from lightning in a bottle Handsome Jack. It's not even the joke of an obvious betrayal, we already know. "Curse your obvious and inevitable betrayal!" only amped up to 11 because the only way the writers could think to try and make it novel was have Scarlett literally tell you she'll betray you. Totally a murderous scallywag but ever so lovely while she does it. She's a pirate 'but with a heart of gold'. On top of that even the pirate model they went with is tired and overused. It's not always a bad thing but it does usually mean the character is innately generic which, in turn, means forgettable. Her pet's a Rakk Hive because borderlands, she 'sails' a hover-boat because borderlands, the 'ocean' is a desert because borderlands, etc etc.Īs a character if you strip away the universe around her, Scarlett is still completely whole and worse, fits perfectly into any other setting. Anything novel or interesting is exclusively a matter of in-universe flavourtext. In a universe of sirens, child bomb-prodigies, robots programmed to feel pain, planet-owning corporations and literal wage-slaves, ancient aliens, insane midgets and goliaths, vault hunters and australians on the moon she's just a pirate. r/BorderlandsGuns for trading gear, as opposed to begging for itīecause she's an incredibly flat generic character following excellence in a world of unique characters. r/PandoranRedCross accepts powerleveling and duping requests, unlike us Same subject matter as here, different (colorful!) style r/Borderlands2, /r/BorderlandsPreSequel, /r/Borderlands3, and /r/Wonderlands all allow link posts.
